Highborn Son

Achille was born as the fourth child and third son to Thibault and Jehanette Marteauchant. The family had been ennobled only a handful of generations ago for their services to the High House of Dzemael – specifically fashioning the gargoyles and finer masonry for their fabled keeps.Achille, rebellious by nature, spent vast amounts of time in the most remote nooks and crannies of Marteauchant keep – located near the Western Highlands and preferred by his father as a residence over their small mansion in the pillars – or any otherwise accessible structures, reading or stickfighting with any willing siblings, although his brothers only ever shared in a fracture of his disobedience and rancour, while his sister Ottilie, firstborn child of House Marteauchant, had already begun training as a dragoon – a position that would later claim here life – and thus rarely found time to visit her homestead.For a while, the boy's obsession with matches had even his mother concerned. Jehanette, who had not married her husband for love, never directed her indifference – mild distaste, perhaps – of the man towards their mutual children, and disobedient, unruly and untameable Achille and her bonded quite closely over their shared frustrations.

Chirurgeon

Thibault Marteauchant insisted on a firm hand in the rearing of his children, particularly his sons, of whom he demanded a military career. Achille was enrolled to be trained as a chirurgeon against his will, and took every opportunity to display his distaste of or shirk his duties until leaving behind the position entirely when coming of age.During his time of service, he built on a friendship that had begun when the two young men had still been boys bored at court.
Leonnot had always provided a stark contrast to his unlikely companion – where Achille was rambunctious and crass, Leonnot was soft-spoken and respectful, where Achille thirsted for independence, Leonnot showed quiet loyalty. Down to Leonnot's smooth, platin hair that nearly reached his hips and the shining armor he clad himself in put against Achille's unruly black mane and aversion to anything heavier than a fur coat, the two seemed to anyone and everything as nothing alike – yet they were inseparable until Achille's resignation.

Rebel

By cutting short his time in the military, Achille concluded a separation from his house that had been long in the making. Disinherited by his father, he now spends his time furthering the same insurgent tendencies fastened by the abuse of power he had witnessed as a soldier. Lodging at a friend's establishment, he only visits his family for the sake – and by the grace of – his mother and single younger sibling, who he adores and cares for to the best of his ability.His uncomoplicated and jovial, even charming conduct and nigh omnipresent smile narrowly conceal a seething rage at his world's rigid and harmful structures that bind and oppress all born into it, and feels no differently about those who would perpetuate it. Achille believes Ishgardian society beyond saving – and the only option being to burn it all to the ground, then build something new inthe ashes. In his eyes, no measure is too drastic to achieve this goal.
